'Poesy Ring'
Connie McGough, from California, said she would love to see the Spanish poesy rings in our collection.
The ring shown here is the No Tengo ring, one of 12 gold rings recovered from the Spanish Armada galleass Girona, which sank off the north coast of Ireland in 1588. It shows a hand holding a heart and is a particularly touching memento - no-one knows the identity of its owner, but it bears the inscription: No tengo mas que dar te - "I have nothing more to give you".
Personal mementoes such as this ring underline the great human tragedy of so many loved ones lost with the Armada - on the Girona alone, almost 1,300 men perished.
