Pretty in Print: 19th Century Costume and Accessories

Saturday 15 March 2008 until Monday 29 September 2008

Exhibition from the Museum's Applied Art collection in Springhill House

19th century day dressA selection of printed cotton dresses from the Museum's Costume collection, illustrating a variety of printing techniques, such as block and roller printing. The dyer's skills are also evident in the costumes, showing the unusual colour combinations achieved during the mid-19th century. Sprigged and floral patterns are displayed with more abstract, and surprisingly modern-looking, fabrics. Accessories from the same era - shoes, handbags and corsets - are also on display to complement the dresses.

On show in Springhill House Costume Gallery, Moneymore, County Londonderry, 15 March-29 September 2008
