A Visit to the new Ulster Museum

The year was nineteen thirty one and our class of twelve year olds, all boys, were taken by an enthusiastic young teacher on a visit to the picture gallery at the new Ulster Museum which had been recently built at Stranmillis.  Our journey would have taken us on the top deck of one of the old electric trams from Castle Junction either by way of Malone Road or Stranmillis.

No recollection of our outing remains, except for one painting.  In an entanglement of handlebars, bicycle wheels and saddles, a cycling club of young men, out for the day, rests for a moment, one foot on the road, the other on a pedal, ready to be off.
