Saturday Mornings
Many people over the last few months have told us that they remember the Saturday morning film shows and two have written to us.
For me, the Saturday morning film shows stand out. They were such a big thing in those days and really popular. I was always afraid I wouldn't get a ticket on the Saturday morning, so I used to sneak out of class in Methody on a Friday afternoon to nip across the road to get a ticket!

As a boarding department prefect in Methodist College in the late 1960s, one of my regular duties was to escort a group of younger boarders the hundred yards or so to the Saturday morning film shows at the Museum. Tickets having been acquired in advance, I would count the group before leaving to ensure that the numbers tallied. Frequently, on arriving at the Museum and counting them again, one or two extra would have materialized, but inevitably were allowed in. If, as a teenager, I regarded the film shows as too ‘childish’, I would skip the film and explore the Museum. On returning to escort the group back, yet again a few extras often seemed to appear. I was never able to work this out, but did subsequently become an accountant - and returned to the Museum in the 1980s as external auditor! I've been a frequent visitor since and will miss the Museum while it's closed.
